Te Rekereke Taiao Trust

Te Rekereke Taiao Trust

Te Rekereke Taiao Trust was set up to protect and enhance the biodiversity in our neighbourhood. We started in 2019 by trapping predators and planting 1000 ecosourced plants, many of them threatened or rare, in 42 hectares of QEII covenanted coastal forest.

Community-driven
Working with neighbours, iwi and other community groups, we are extending our efforts outward to create and strengthen forest and wildlife corridors linking Karioi Maunga (mountain) to the sea.

From Rare to Here
Many species of native plants that were once common around the coast between Raglan and Aotea have become locally rare or extinct. That's why we launched From Rare to Here. We are:
  • spreading awareness and engaging with locals
  • partnering with landowners and expert collectors to gather seeds and propogate them through nuseries
  • identifying and controlling invasive pest plants that threaten to smother and displace our native ecology
